Tulip class TL9 spinal armed SDB

Source message

Since you can't build a rules-legal TL8 spinal mount ship [though I've already tried - see the TL8 Pistol class Destroyer Boat (heretical) thread from early February 2001] (The computers at TL8 can't handle a large enough hull), I decided I would have to try at TL9. This ship is very large for TL9 (you can only get 9999 tons until TL10 due to computer limitations), and as the smallest spinal mount ship that can to 6Gs, this should be the terror of the spacelanes until TL10. Unfortunately, I couldn't fit both the spinal mount and a Jump drive, so this is an SDB. There are no screens at TL9, so they weren't an option. I could have put in two 100 ton missile bays, but it didn't seem worthwhile to me (other people are likely to have other opinions of course). I could have dropped the tonnage to 8000, but that would have required a 1G drive which didn't fit my conception of this ship. If the tonnage is brought below 8000, the power plant won't produce enough EP to take care of the spinal mount.

This series (including the higher TL versions) are more than half spinal mount, which dictates a long thin ship. I figured this would be best represented as a Needle/Wedge configuration. This could also have been done as Cone, Cylinder, Close Structure, or Dispersed Structure I suppose, but a flattened sphere didn't stretch in my mind quite that out of round.

Since this doesn't have any sub-craft, it needs to be able to refuel itself and (theoretically) to land on a planet to let people off.

COMMENTS
The Tulip class is the smallest practical spinal mount armed ship at TL9
While it could be a bit smaller, that would remove the sand caster and laser
turrets. It's only defences are the sandcasters, and the only offensive
armament other than the spinal mount are the lasers.
The designers considered dropping the size of the vessel to 8000 tons, but
that required a drop to 1G acceleration which was deemed unacceptable in a
combat vessel.
