rectangle. It measured 5 ft. by 12 ft. What was the perimeter of the
inside of the cave?
Answer: The perimeter of the cave was
34 feet. 5 + 5 + 12 + 12 = 34 feet
2. The Grinch's dog, Max, was 8 years old. Some people say that
one dog year is equal to 7 people years. How old was Max in people
years?
Answer: Max was 56 years old in people
years! 8 x 7 = 56 people years
3: The Grinch thought up his nasty idea at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas
Eve. It took him 2 hours and 15 minutes to get ready. What time did
he leave for Whoville?
Answer: The Grinch left for Whoville at
7:15 p.m.
5:00 p.m. plus 1 hour = 6:00
p.m.
6:00 p.m. plus 1 hour = 7:00
p.m.
7:00 p.m. plus 15 minutes = 7:15

4: He arrived in whoville at 9:00 p.m. he thought that the Who
boys and girls would wake up bright and early and get up at 6:00 a.m.
on Christmas morning. How many hours did the Grinch have to try and
stop Christmas?
Answer: The Grinch had 9 hours to try
to stop Christmas from happening in Whoville.
9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., if you count
the hours between those times, you will get 9 hours.
5: It was snowing in Whoville that night. The first hour, an inch
of snow fell. The second hour, two more inches fell. The third hour,
three more inches fell. Keeping with that pattern, how long would it
take for 15 inches of snow to fall in all?
Answer: In the fourth hour, 4 inches of
snow would fall. In the fifth hour, 5 inches of snow would
fall.
(The 1st hour= 1 inch, 2nd hour = 2
inches, 3rd hour= 3 inches
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 inches of
snow)
It will take 5 hours to have 15 inches
of snow in all.
6: The first Who chimney was 24 feet long. How many yards long was
that?
Answer: The Who chimney was 8 yards
long.
3 feet = 1 yard

1 x 8 = 8
3 x 8 = 24
24 ÷ 3 = 8 yards
7: Grandma Who had knitted each of the little Whos a Christmas
stocking. They were hung neatly in a row from the mantle. The Grinch
grabbed them three at a time and stuffed them in his bag. If there
were 12 stockings (lots of cousins were visiting), how many grabs did
the Grinch have to make?
Answer: The Grinch had to make 4 grabs.

Answer: It took the truck 12 trips to
get 108 trees to Whoville.

11: The Boy Scouts drank hot chocolate while they were selling
trees. The first night they drank 2 quarts of hot chocolate. How many
cups of hot chocolate did they drink?

14: Mother Who wanted to bake a fruitcake for the Christmas feast.
She went to the Whoville Produce Market where she bought 10 ounces of
raisins, 12 ounces of dates, 15 ounces of pecans, and 15 ounces of
walnuts. She went to another store and bought 4 ounces of candied
cherries and 8 ounces of candied pineapple. How many pounds of
ingredients did she buy?
Answer: Mother Who bought 4 pounds of
ingredients.
10 + 12 + 15 + 15 + 4 + 8 = 64 ounces
64 ounces = 4 pounds
15: For Christmas, Cindy-Lou Who wanted a Barbie Doll. The one she
wanted cost $7.97. If Father Who gave the clerk in the toy store a 10
dollar bill, how much change would he receive?
Answer: Father Who would receive $2.03.
