Barcodes on Beta Editions
Barcodes on beta editions are not ISBN based as beta editions do not need ISBN numbers (or, for that matter, legal deposit). Instead we assign an alpha-numeric catalogue reference code using the following formula: Three alphabetical characters based on the TITLE of the book followed by an alphabetical character representing the MEDIA and a two-digit numerical code representing the EDITION or SERIES.
Media codes include B (book, booklet), C (audio cassette, 8-track cartridge, Audio CD), M (Multimedia, CDROM, Data disk), E (Electronic book), V (video, DVD), etc.
For example the first edition of the multimedia package A Counsellor's Resource Kit* which consists of audio cassettes & computer disks has the code CRK-M01 which is then converted into a barcode using a numeric algorism to create barcode glyphs:
If you require a specific barcode for a certain bookstore, these can be either printed on your book cover during the production process or onto a sticker that can be adhered over the existing barcode. There may be an additional charge for this service.
