Darrington Areas, Squire Creek Wall / Overview
Directions: Fr Darrington, several large granitic domes lie to the S of town. Squire Creek Wall: follow Squire Creek Rd SW from town for ~5 mi to Squire Creek Wall on R. Wall is to W and involves stream crossing. Other domes: fr town, drive S on Mtn Loop Hwy for ~3 mi. Turn R (before Clear Creek CG) on FS 2060 for 5-6 mi to Jct w/FS 2065. At Jct to SE is Exfoliation Dome. Follow FS 2065 to SW past 3 O'Clock Wall, Comb Buttress on R, and then at end of rd is Green Giant Buttress. See area map for layout of buttresses.
Notes: Complex of mountainous, multi-buttressed, slabby, knobby faces. Expect long runouts, especially on older 5.7-5.8 routes. The 5.10 cruxes are usually protected, but with old 1/4" bolts. This type of climbing referred to by the locals as "knob trotting." Long, hard approaches, and thus, traditionally an area of low visitation. Good potential exists for new routes.
Classics: Three O'Clock Rock- Silent Running 5.9; Blueberry Hill- West Slab 5.8; Green Giant Buttress
