9. Mount Erie
Directions: Fr Anacortes, Take a right onCommercial until 36th street. Take a left. Take another left on H street. Goabout 2.5 miles to the turnoff. All climbs are reached from the top following numerous trails. This prominent landmark is divided into Upper and Lower Cliffs. The Powerline Wall is found by following the powerline down. Look for bolted top anchors for routes.
Notes: Most popular area of Skagit County climbers, especially for teaching beginners and intermediate climbers. Fun granite walls surrounded by tall, thick forests command an outstanding view of the bay. This area has been rejuvenated by sport climbers. With a new guide book by Dallas Kloke (put out by the SkagitValley Mountaineers), there are more than 150 new routes, including a lot ofmoderates. A lot of toprope routes and many natural leads. Look for abouldering guide from Dallas Kloke to come out soon! Mt. Erie is the highest point on the island.
