On the 15th of November, 2002 the foundation framing was started on the first
lot( #840 ) of two houses we plan to build on the subdivided plot
called"Habitat for Humanity Estates" in North Canon City, Co.
This land was previously referred to as "Robbie Lane", but was renamed
when the City of Canon City approved the subdivision of four lots and named
it "Habitat for Humanity Estates".
This view shows the stem wall forms in place on lot 840, while foundation forms
have been poured on lot 842 (the South corner lot)
Finally, the last view shows the stem walls poured on lot 840 and the forms
ready for stem wall pouring on the corner lot #842.This photo was taken Dec 14,2002.
By December 21, the subfloor and partial external walls were installed on this house on
Lot 840. The stemwalls on lot 842 have also been poured. Recent donations and our
playhouse raffle will help much now that building supplies are now being invoiced.
A view showing the East and South walls after errection is shown below, as well as the
nearly complete enclosure status of both houses looking West on the 16th of January.
On the 17th of January the trusses were lifted by crane on top of the wall supports of
both houses. It was a sunny day with low wind, so this operation took place with no
problems. The crane was a rental machine supplied by Canon Rental.
. . . . . .
By Saturday, Jan 18, the trusses were all installed and ready for sheeting and shingling work which began
a week later on the 24th and 25th of the month. The temperatures were running in the 40-50 degree range.
On the 1st of February, the shingling of lot 842 was started. It was almost at 70 degree
day, so a lot was done by the work crew to move the project forward.
These houses were wrapped and rough electrical and plumbing installed
by the 15th of March, 2003. Vinyl Siding installation was also initiated on March 15th. Status on March 30th is as shown.
Building committee chairman, Tom Hart and a few other volunteers got the footing started
very soon after the lots were excavated.
By the 28th of December, the stem wall forms on lot 842 had been
removed, and we were ready for floor joist installation.
Moving on, by the 6th of January, 2003 the floor joists, flooring, and two walls had been installed and
errected on the Lot 842 property. A photo of the East wall errection is shown at the left.
The roof trusses have been delivered for both houses and are stacked awaiting installation.
The interior wall framing is largely completed on both houses.
Lynda Schumate and her children Maegan 16 and Jacob 7 all put in some of their
sweat equity on the 1st of February when the above photo of their house on lot 842 was taken.
Utility sheds for each of them were being built at that time by a group of
Canon City Methodist Church volunteers who have partnered with Habitat to support our housing efforts.
