When the dog comes to an obsticle he/she will stop or go around it depending if there is room.  The dog will always stop at a curb where the handler may step onto a road.  Some schools teach their dog's to stop at a curb after the team crosses the road. 
What does the blind person do with the dog when they have to go into a store or restauraunt?
The dog guide can go anywhere the handler goes as long as the dog is wearing it's working harness.  The dog is trained to go where ever the handler goes and knows to behave.  In a movie theatre or restaurnt the dog is trained to lay quietly either at the handler's side or under a table.
The dog also knows how to ride on elevators and escalators so working inside a mall and any building is ok for them too.  The dog guide is even allowed to go into a doctor's office and into hospital's with the handler.
But I thought dog's werent allowed in buildings?
That is true however, as long as the dogs are wearing their harnesses, they can go anywhere the handler goes.  In fact it is against the law to bann a person who has a guide dog with them to leave or to enter any public building just because of the dog.
The harness is like the dog's uniform and identifies the dog as working.  The dog is not there with the handler to play or just being there.  They have an actual job to do.
