I read this on September 2nd 1999 on Diana´s TV message board ( for non-members, go to the clubhouse and then to the message boards, the username is “non-member” and the password is “sesame”): “So I'm flippin' through the channels the other day and I saw something I never thought I would see. Oprah was on the Roseanne show and Roseanne challenged her to an armwrestling match. And they actually did it. Roseanne said she would donate a ton of cash to Oprah's charity if she won so of course Oprah took her up on it. I missed the first part but that seemed to be just a joke the second time they got serious. Oprah is one strong woman and Roseanne new she had lost right off the bat so she took her elbow off the table and pulled with all her body and Oprah's arm still didn't move then she stood up and pulled and she still couldn't move Oprah's arm. Now Roseanne sure ain't what I'd call strong but I don't think I could keep my arm planted and pull her with over like Oprah did. It was very impressive. TwoPossums “ |

If somebody has more pictures of the match, or even a tape, e-mail me and I´ll post everything here While surfing, I found 2 more reviews : |

Oprah Opens Up to Roseanne ( Mr.Showbiz, March 1, 1999 ) Never let it be said that Oprah Winfrey doesn't like a little competition. The talk show titan will give daytime rival Roseanne a ratings boost this week by taking the hot seat for an in-depth interview. Among Oprah's revelations on the show, which airs Tuesday: She says that the British media took her comments about Jerry Springer out of context, and insists that the sleazemeister and his "vulgarity circus" are not determining factors in whether she'll continue her show once her contract expires in 2002. "When I decide that I'm done, it will be because I feel I have done what I need to do, not because of any one person, ever," explains Winfrey. And besides, she says, "There is a place for [Springer] because, I, out of all people, believe in freedom of speech." (In related news, The Oprah Winfrey Show last week took back the title of the No. 1-rated talk show from The Jerry Springer Show for the first time since November.) Oprah also tells Roseanne that she's decided to take her name out of the running for the Emmy for Best Daytime Host, figuring eight wins and a lifetime achievement award were plenty of validation. "Last year, I was given a Lifetime Achievement award, and after you've achieved it for a lifetime, what else is there?" asks Oprah. But despite the warm and fuzzy interview, a little friendly competition can't be avoided when talk show hosts collide, so Roseanne challenged Oprah to an arm-wrestling bout. Oprah agreed, as long as the $10,000 purse went to charity. Just like in the ratings, Roseanne proved no match for the run-on workout queen, losing two out of three and agreeing to donate the money to Oprah's Angel Network.

BATTLE OF THE TALK SHOW HOSTS: OPRAH AND ROSEANNE WILL ARM WRESTLE. LOS ANGELES ( Wireless Flash ) -- Talk show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Roseanne usually just battle over ratings, but they´re about to battle over each other´s muscles. A spokesperson for the “Roseanne Show” says the two superstars actually engaged in an arm wrestling match while Roseanne was interviewing Oprah on an episode of her talk show which will air today (Mar. 2). Don´t get the wrong idea: the cat fight was a good-natured rivalry spurred on by feisty Roseanne, with the loser donating $10.000 to the winner´s favorite Charity. For the record, buffed-out Oprah slammed Roseanne´s mitt to the mat in two out of three matches -- which means Oprah´s Angel Network charity is now $10.000 richer. |
