When a cat licks itself, it leaves behind saliva, which causes dander. This saliva contains a protein called FeLd-1, which is the source of most cat allergies. Compared to the average house cat, the Siberian has a considerable less amount of this protein – almost to the point of being void of it – therefore greatly reducing the risk of allergies to humans. Females have less of the protein in their saliva than the males, although both have a very low content. |
