Balantiocheilus melanopterus |
Origin: Thailand, Malaysia. Temperament: Very nervous fish. Size: 35cm or 14 inches, hence only juveniles are suitable for the community tank. Temperature: 75-80°F or 24-27°C pH Level: 7.0 or thereabout. Food: Pellets, peas, algae, lettuce, blood worms, and brine shrimp. Tank Setup: Offer plenty of swimming space, ideally a tank over 6 feet in length or larger. Breeding: Has not been bred in captivity, all specimens are exported from Asia, hence the high price. Sexing: Females tend to be more round in the body. Comments: Though not really a "shark"- only named for its appearance, this fish, also called a silver shark in Australia, is an excellent jumper, so ensure that you have tight fitting lids. Said to be capable of leaping up to six feet in the air. |
