Origin: Sri Lankan river systems.

Temperament: Potentially a community fish. If in a smaller tank, can be aggresive.

Size: Up to 6cm (2.4")

Temperature: 72-75°F or 22-24°C

pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0

Food: Flake food, pellets, worms, crustaceans, insects.

Tank Setup: Aggression corresponds to tank size. Minimum of a 36" tank for relative peace. Tank should have soft vegetable substrate, with plenty of swimming space. Light can be subdued by having a few floating plants.

Breeding: Raise temperature to between 77-83F or 25 to 28C. Female lays a large number of eggs (usually just after "dawn") which hatch in 25 hours. Remove parents.

Sexing: Difficult. Males have darker fins, black dorsal fins and blood red anal fin. Females have a duller yellow fin without dark borders..

Comments: Will eat lightly-leaved plants.
