Origin: South America: In the Rio Paraguay and Rio Negro.

Temperament: Said to be a good all-round community fish.

Size: Up to 6cm (2.6")

Temperature: 75-80°F or 24-27°C

pH Level: 6.2 to 6.8

Food: Flake food, pellets, small insects and crustaceans, plant matter.

Tank Setup: Keep in a well-planted tank and with peaceful species.

Breeding: Not difficult. Spawning takes place after the male circles the female, pushing her into the vegetation, where the eggs are laid at random amongst the plants. Fry hatch in 24-26 hours and are swimming in less than four days. Can be difficult to rear, and can be fed on small nauplii or crushed flake food. Remove parents immediately after spawning as they are carnivorous.

Sexing: Male caudal fin has white spots..

Comments: Generally good community fish, easy to feed and care for. Keep in a shoal.
