Bronze Corydora
Corydoras aeneus
Origin: Venezuela, Amazon River, south to the sub-tropical La Plata basin.

Temperament: Very good community fish. Peaceful.

Size: Up to 7cm (2.8")

Temperature: 70-80°F or 21-27°C

pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0

Food: Flake food, pellets, small meat pieces, worms, crustaceans, insects, greens.

Tank Setup: Keep in a tank of two feet in length and larger. Keep with other peaceful species, and not fish that are much larger than them.

Breeding: Spawning may last betwen one and three hours, the female laying between five and twelve eggs at one time, for a total of around 200 eggs. These are laid on plants, and hatch in five or six days.

Sexing: Females are generally more rounded, and sometimes slightly longer.

Comments: Perhaps the most commonly kept catfish, bronze corys scavenge for food on the bottom levels of the tank, keeping it clean. Corys need well oxygenated, mature water, and it is not uncommon for corys to gulp air from the surface. However, this is not necessarily indicative of poor oxygen levels, rather this seems to be a force of habit.
