Clown Loach
Botia macracantha
Origin: Sumatra, Borneo.

Temperament: Community fish. Fairly well behaved.

Size: Up to 30cm (12") in the wild, but realistically are much smaller and never reach sexual maturity in the aquarium.

Temperature: 75-86°F or 24-30°C

pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0

Food: Flake food, pellets, worms, plant matter, crustaceans.

Tank Setup: Soft substrate recommended. Best in a tank of 36" or more.

Breeding: Impossible in aquarium, never attain sexual maturity.

Sexing: Difficult. Female is larger than the male, male is more coloured..

Comments: Will shoal, and have been known to shoal with Armoured Catfish when lacking its own kind. A very popular fish in the United States, the demand is smaller in other countries, and as such tend to be very expensive, as they must be imported from Indonesia.
