Origin: Northern Brazil through Venezuala, Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad. Temperament: Peaceful. Size: Males to 3cm (1.2"), females to 6cm (2.4") Temperature: 70-83°F or 21-28°C pH Level: 7.0 to 7.6. Food: Flake food, pellets, peas, algae, lettuce, (most greens), worms, crustaceans, insects. Tank Setup: Keep plenty of plants in the tank. Keep with peaceful species, especially not with barbs or other fin nippers. Tankmates must be selected carefully, or else they may be harassed. Breeding: Livebearer, will breed without intervention. Broods between 20 and 100, after 4-6 weeks. Sexing: Mature males more brightly colured than females, with bigger fins. Females dull looking. Males have a gonopodium. Comments: Fairly good community fish, easy to feed and care for. |
