Origin: South-east Asia: Thailand, through the rivers of Indonesian Archipeligo. Temperament: Not a community fish. Will constantly fight amongst themselves and with other fish. Size: Up to 30cm (12") in the wild, but 10cm (4") in captivity. Temperature: 75-83°F or 24-28°C pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0 Food: Flake food, pellets, peas, algae, lettuce, (most greens), worms, crustaceans, insects. Tank Setup: Needs big tank with plenty of space. Keep plants in the tank, they will clean them of algae. Keep with equally sized fish that can stand up to them. Offer retreats for the smaller fish, or it will be hounded to death. Breeding: Bubble-nest breeder. Difficult. Sexing: Difficult. Mature males may be more coloured.. Comments: Not a community fish. Do not recommend for the beginner, better handled by the dedicated and experienced. |
