Origin: North from Korea and China, south to Vietnam. Temperament: Potential community fish. Agressive streak, especially at spawning time. Size: Up to 9cm (3.5") Temperature: 60-75°F or 15-24°C pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0 Food: Flake food, pellets, peas, algae, lettuce, (most greens), worms, crustaceans, insects. Tank Setup: Keep plants in the tank, these fish will clean off algae. May be better kept in a species tank. Breeding: Bubble-nest breeder. Difficult. Sexing: Dorsal and anal fins more established in males. Mature males tend to be more coloured.. Comments: Has fallen out of favour in recent years - looks drab in comparison with other tropicals. Inititally popular, one of the "original" tropicals introduced to Europe in the 19th century. |
