Origin: South America: Amazon Basin.

Temperament: A fairly good community fish.

Size: Up to 6cm (2.4").

Temperature: 75-80°F or 24-27°C

pH Level: 6.2 to 7.0

Food: Flake food, pellets, mosquito larvae, small insects and crustaceans, plant matter.

Tank Setup: Does best with other small, peaceful species, in a tank with a fair few plants.

Breeding: Provide clumps of fine-leaved plants, amonst which the fish will spawn, usually at dusk. A large number of eggs are laid and these hatch in 20-24 hours, and the fry become free-swimming in 4-5 days.

Sexing: Females tend to be more rounded..

Comments: Shoaling fish best kept in numbers of 4 or more. This fish is hardy and does swim at strange angles - so don't mistake this for an illness!
