Origin: Southern Mexico to Guatemala. Temperament: Males sometimes pushy, but in all a good community fish. Size: Potentially 12 cm (5"), however 4" is more common. Temperature: 70-80°F or 21-27°C pH Level: 7.0 to 7.6. Food: Flake food, pellets, peas, algae, lettuce. Tank Setup: Keep plenty of plants in the tank. Keep with peaceful species. Offer caves if necessary for females. Breeding: Livebearer, relatively easy to breed. Sexing: Mature males distinguished by a "swordtail" and a gonopodium. Comments: Generally good community fish, easy to feed and care for. |
