Whiptail
Loricaria filamentosa
Origin: South America: Rio Magdalena.

Temperament: Fairly safe with similarly sized fish.

Size: Up to 25cm (10")

Temperature: 72-80°F or 22-27°C

pH Level: 6.5 to 7.0

Food: Algae, pellets, worms, crustaceans, insects, greens.

Tank Setup:
Needs large tank, and must be kept with other large fish.

Breeding:
A rock is decided on and cleaned of algae. The eggs are laid and then fertilised, with each amber coloured egg measuring about 2mm. The eggs are guarded by the male, who fans them with water, and they hatch in nine days, when the fry should be kept in shallow water and fed on fine food.

Sexing:
Males only have bristly outgrowths on their spine.

Comments: This fish is again best left to the experienced, if not for the inhibiting price, for the large tank and its specific needs in relation to water quality.
