July 2004

Alexandria Birthday Celebration
Where: Oronoco Park (corner of Madison and N. Fairfax Street down by the river)
When: Saturday, July 10th, - 4 p.m.-about 9 p.m. (when the fireworks start)
How: Demos, demos, demos
Why: Alexandria's Birthday Celebration (the spinners have participated in this a couple of other times)

Ann Liddle and her husband will be establishing the Springwater space about 2 p.m. We have a 10x10 space allotted to us, and they have a 10x10 canopy to help shield us from the sun. Look for the Springwater banner they'll be putting up with the canopy. Anyone who needs a chair, can carry it from Springwater and return it. (Several of us have keys to get back in during the evening.) I plan to bring a lighter weight one, however. Parking will be scarce. However, between 3 - 4 p.m. I'll be outside Springwater to guard property for demonstrators. They can drop off bags and spinning wheels, then go park their cars. This will ease the burden for carrying it too far.

We can use the large knitting needles, straight or circular, for other demonstrations if the knitters want. I can't wait to see them used. Sylvia chain crocheted some yarns together and Randy and I plyed some together on spinning wheels to make a fat yarn to use with the needles for demos. We'll bring that. There's not much of it, so we'll have to rip out and reuse. Later we'll have a chance to make more. I might pick up some acrylic from Michael's or Walmart, and we can strand that or crochet it and use it as a crochet demo first, then knitting. Neither the Walmart nor Michaels near me carries that "by the pound" large skein yarn. Do you know anyone who does? I'll buy several of the smaller skeins.

Sylvia will be bring spin sticks, and both of us will be bringing wool. Bring anything else you need. Don't forget water!

There will be demos of things other than knitting and spinning as well, so this should be a very good well rounded event. I can't wait. This should be loads of fun.
