Fred Rich's Homepage |
Hi, and welcome to my website. Here's just a little bit about myself and what I do. Firstly, my name's Fred as I'm sure you've already gathered. I'm a Christian, and have been for a number of years now. My conversion was not an instant thing, but rather a process that began through my upbringing in a local Baptist church in Oldham, Greater Manchester (King Street Baptist Church).
In terms of church life, I seem to do quite a lot of travelling around these days, particularly as a local lay preacher. My home church is Swarcliffe Baptist Church, where I am church secretary, and an elected deacon. I am also involved in a number of other church activities at Swarcliffe Baptist Church in Leeds.
I read biblical studies as an undergraduate at the University of Sheffield . I achieved a 2-1 overall, with which I am very pleased. I also want to publicly acknowledge that this is down to God helping and encouraging me beyond my natural ability, or hard (or not so hard) work that I put in.
My undergraduate lectures consisted of all kinds of different things. Courses that I have taken include: text modules on Psalms, Genesis, Isaiah, Song of Songs, Luke, John, Revelation and Galatians. I found the whole time that I was an undergraduate in Sheffield to be enjoyable. I've learnt a lot, particularly by hearing about and being challenged by some of the views that I've come across.
After that I continued at Sheffield, researching an M.Phil in the area of Pauline apostolic power/authority. I submitted my thesis in September 2004, and had my viva in the following January. I was awarded my M.Phil later in 2005.
I am now living in Leeds, West Yorkshire, although I'm originally from Oldham (Greater Manchester), and have lived in Sheffield for a couple of years as well. I went to school at St. Martins' Primary and Infant school in Oldham to begin with before moving to Hulme Grammar Preparatory School at the age of 7, and then Hulme Grammar School for boys at age 11. The football team (some would claim that they are not - but I still think that they are ;-) that I support is Oldham Athletic. Come on the Latics!
In September 2004 I began my third degree! This time I studied for an LL.M. in Law (2 year postgraduate conversion course) at the University of Leeds . On the whole I enjoyed my time at the university, despite the hard work that this degree involved. In September 2006 I began studying on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law, York branch, with a view to becoming a solictor in 2007.
My vision for the future is to re-apply for Baptist ministry training in the not too distant future, when I feel God says that its time. I would then likely go on to serve on a non-stipendiary, part-time, basis if I am successful in my application then.
There are many other things that I could say about myself, but I shall leave it at that for now. Well enjoy the rest of the site and may the Sacred Three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you.
