Breast
Feeding
Everyone says that breast feeding
makes a healthier baby. And this to an extent is true. Research also shows
that breast feeding a baby helps it against diaper rash and other problems.
A breast feeding mother has
to keep eating heathy, whatever you eat will have an effect on the milk
you produce.
It is also said that when you
breast feed
your period takes longer to
return after giving birth. Some people choose not to breast feed their
babies because they find it embarassing, some think it isn't apropriate,
others are afraid of the sore nipples you can sometimes get, some are influenced
by what other people think about breast feeding. Either way breast feeding
is the natural thing to do, and that is the main cause of breasts in the
first place. I highly recommend breast feeding, its cheaper and really
a good way for a baby and mom to get to know eachother.
Bottle
Feeding
Bottle feeding is rather convenient.
You can pop out a bottle of milk anytime in public, but if you pop out
a breast in public to feed your baby you get frowned upon. Bottle milk
is just as healthy as breast milk, but it doesn't compare. A baby should
not be fed regular cows milk until about one year old and even then the
quantity should be limited. How ever by bottle feeding your baby is quite
harder than breast feeding. When bottle feeding you must see to it the
milk is always the right tempature, do this by letting a few drops of milk
fall on the inside of your wrist, if it is too hot stand it in the fridge
a while, if the milk is too cold stand the bottle in a bowl of hot water
a while. You must first boil any water you plan to use to mix the baby's
formula, to rid it of germs. Make sure all bottles are frequently sanitized,
either with an electric sanitizing machine, or the special tablets, or
boil the bottles a while. See to it that all bottles remain clean. When
not in use, turn the bottle nipple in to the bottle screw on the collar
and cover the top. Store them in a clean area. Try not to keep a bottle
of milk out at room tempature more than a few minutes, warm milk can easily
breed germs. Always follow the directions on th fomula EXACTLY as they
have it, don't use too little or too much water or formula, follow the
directions exactly.
Fighting
Diaper Rash
Almost all babies at one period
in time get diaper rash. Always change a diaper as soon as you find that
it's dirty, clean the area good and keep the baby's bottom as dry as possible.
Diaper rash is caused by ammonia,
ammonia
is caused by urine and it causes
germs to breed and a baby's skin is way too sensitive to stand up to it.
Like I said keep the babies skin as dry as possible, when the baby does
get diaper rash you can purchase a special cream or powder to help get
rid of it.
Using baby powder also should
help to prevent it since powder keeps skin dry
after changing the baby's diapers
sprinkle a very little amount of baby powder over the baby's bottom etc.
Bathing
the Baby
It is a good idea to gather
everything you'll need before you start, so that it'll make leaving the
baby for so much as a second unlikely. Make the water luke warm, check
it with your elbow, since your hands and fingers are already used to very
hot or cold tempatures it won't help to test with them. Always add the
cold water before the hot, the plastic of a baby bath cold heat up a burn
the baby if you put the hot water in first. Remove the baby's clothes and
diaper, always support the baby's head, wash the baby down and rinse, only
wash its hair about twice a week, it is unnecessary to do it anymore often
than this. Don't keep the baby in the tub too long, and make sure the room
you are bathing the baby in is warm, if it is too cold, it will not be
comfortable for the baby, and a baby can lose body heat very quickly. Dry
the baby thoroughly, paying attention to the diaper area and between the
toes and behind the neck etc.
