Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts,
and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, after his parents divorced, Matthew Perry became
a top-ranked junior tennis player in Canada as he was growing up. However, after
moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to live with his father, actor John
Bennett Perry, he became even more interested in acting. Upon graduating from
high school, Perry intended to enroll at the University of Southern California.
But when he was offered a leading role on the television series Boys Will Be
Boys, he seized the opportunity to begin his acting career. His other series
credits include regular roles on Home Free and Sydney, as well as a recurring
part on Growing Pains. He also guest-starred on such series as Who's the Boss?,
The Tracey Ullman Show, Empty Nest, The John Larroquette Show and Beverly Hills
90210. His television movies include Deadly Relations, Call Me Anna and Dance
'til Dawn. Among his feature films are Fools Rush In, A Night in the Life of
Jimmy Reardon, She's Out of Control, and Parallel Lives. Perry also co-starred
with Chris Farley in the buddy comedy Almost Heroes, released last May. Most
recently, Perry spent part of his summer hiatus in Toronto, filming a starring
role opposite Neve Campbell in the romantic comedy Three to Tango. In addition
to acting, Perry enjoys writing and sold his first pilot, Maxwell's House, to
Universal Television prior to being cast on Friends. His other interests include
playing ice hockey and softball. Perry lives in Los Angeles. His birthday is
August 19.
