Today is my Mom's and Aunt's birthdays. It is also the end of the birthday parties for Kurt and I'm ready for a break. Yesterday my 2 oldest daughters came over. The oldest is married and they have 3 dogs now, a Chocolate Lab, a Golden and a mix. They think the mix *may* be Australian Shepherd and Rottie but no one knows for sure. I didn't expect them to bring their dogs over yesterday as the last time I talked to her she said they were planning to leave them home. My second oldest daughter is dogsitting for Jack, the LD puppy we raised while his family is away. The 3 younger kids were at the lake with me and we had Magnum and Jack in the water. They were getting along well and we were just going to take them in when up run the other 3 dogs. Pierce went right into the water without hesitation. (He's the Golden). Zeke ran right into the water, (he's the mix) but Snickers (the Choc Lab) ran to the edge of the water, got his toes wet and ran away. Then he ran back and looked at the others and ran back again. The next time he just ran right into the water with everybody else. Jeff was thrilled. He thought he had a water dog that hated water. :-) Well, it was almost impossible to get Jack and Magnum out of the water with the other 3 dogs there so we let them stay a little longer. After about 10 minutes, we took everybody in and hosed them all down (some of them are not used to it and didn't like it), dryed them all off, took them in and cleaned everybody's ears. What a houseful that was with 7 dogs and 7 people! I was a bit afraid of how Magnum would react to all those dogs and he did growl a few times. I was also afraid he had overdone his exercise for the day, although, he seemed to be walking pretty well this morning. Monica and Jack spent the night here and we took them for a walk and then swimming. I think maybe Magnum did too much between yesterday and today and tonight he is limping a lot and often times just holding the leg up and not even using it. Poor Magnum. :-( I gave him some buffered aspirin tonight with his dinner and I'm hoping he feels better in the morning. He is using it a little off and on. It seems like this is something we will have to battle his whole life. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever be able to go for walks with him without him hurting afterward. I don't know, I guess all we can do is wait and see. Monica and Jack are gone now and we are pretty much back to normal again. Magnum seemed to accept Jack pretty well. I think Magnum is the top dog here and Jack knows it. |
