Creatures out of the blackest night, night ogres emphasize the quiet terror of creatures that strike at any time and place. Unlike their namesakes, night ogres are both cunning and quick, and are always willing to play a game of cat and mouse with their chosen prey. This enjoyment can be their undoing - night ogres can be challenged by their targets to games they can't win, effectively putting the target outside the ogre's reach. Night ogres are the Thallain equivalent of imps, twisting their cunning into cruel craftiness. |
Appearance Night ogres look nothing like their equivalents, instead seeming to be twisted, misshapen beings, with black-gray skin and yellow eyes that glow when light is shined upon them, like a cat's. A night ogre's eyes glitter with cunning, even when they are pretending to be stupid. |
Seemings - Childings enjoy tricking others, using simple tricks to prove their superiority over other children. They only respect those who prove themselves more crafty than the little monsters, treating all others with scorn and ridicule. - Wilders are not unlike their younger brothers, except that they are even more cunning and ruthless. Wilder night ogres, however, learn how to pamper someone's ego as well as prickling it, allowing them to gain strong but dumb allies rather than alienating all their fellows. - Grumps pick specific areas to haunt, where they can be assured of superiority. They are the most vengeful of the night ogres, constantly pursuing those who defeat them until they win. |
Affinity Actor Birthrights - Crafty- Night ogres are extremely tricky beings. All night ogres gain +1 dot of Wits, even if it raises their total above 5. - Sneaky - Night ogres are naturally stealthy creatures. All night ogres make all Stealth rolls at -1 difficulty. Night ogres cannot botch Enigmas or Subterfuge rolls. Frailties - Challenge-Bound - Night ogres cannot resist a challenge. Any night ogre who is challenged to a test of wits must accept. If they lose the challenge, they cannot physical harm the target for a full day, nor can they use their Arts or Birthrights against that target for a full day. If the target attacks the night ogre, they can defend themselves, and counterattack for the duration of the fight, but still cannot use Arts, and cannot attack again once the battle is over. |

Relations with Others Night ogres don't have any special relations with other kiths. They interact with pretty much everyone in the same way - from a position of condescending authority if they're superior, and from bitter envy if they aren't. |
