Fuselage
The fuselage is constructed of 4130 thinwall steel tubing. It is made similar
to the wing ribs. A wooden fixture is built to piece together the tubing
to ready it for tack welding. Small welds to hold the parts together.
The tubing is cut with a hacksaw or other suitable method. The ends of
the tubing are notched to fit over the longerons. This can be done with
tin snips on thin tubing followed up with a ginder. This fit is needed
to reduce the gap for welding purposes. There are four longerons
running lengthwise on the fuselage. The other cross members and diagonals
connect to them.
Here, the sides of
the fuselage have been mounted in the upright position, upside down, to
the fixture to ready it for the cross members.
