Abyss

Standing on the edge of a dark abyss
My life spread out before me
Disappointment stares me in the face
Unlived dreams everywhere
Shattered hopes litter the landscape
Nightmares dance across a dismal future
A lone figure walks this endless road
No expression on her battered face
Death approaches on his black horse
And she falls to her knees as he passes her by
Tears of frustration flow from her eyes
Slowly she continues her journey
