Lord Elrond Half-Elven
He is Lord of all the Elves and he lives in Rivendell with his daughter, Arwen. It was during the War against Sauron in the Second Age that he became Lord and named Rivendell as being a safe haven. He also fought with the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, where he gave the man, Isildur, the chance to get rid of the ring. Isildur declined and ever since then he has never trusted men.
He is Millenia old and the son of Earendil the Mariner and Elwing. He is a legendary healer and heals Frodo in the Fellowship of the Ring. In the Two Towers he goes with Arwen to the Undying Lands. He bears Vilya, the ring of air, one of the great rings of power.
His name, Half-Elven, traces back to his ancestry, where the Elven Princess Luthien gave up her immortality for a mortal man called Beren.

It is Lord Elrond who holds the council at Rivendell, which decides the nine members of the Fellowship.
"Nine companions..........you will be called the Fellowship of the Ring...."
