They are the primal species today and they were in Middle- Earth, they're Men, or 'the big people'. It was men, along with Elves who formed the last Alliance who challenged the dark Lord Sauron on the slopes of Mount Doom. Their leader was Elendil, High King of Gondor and his son, Isildur. It was called the Battle of Dagorlad and it was one of the bloodiest conflicts ever to be seen in Middle-Earth. It saw the loss of Elendil and the Elven king Gil-galad. Isildir chased Sauron back to mount doom and took off his finger the great Ring of Power. Isildur was offered, by Elrond, to cast the ring back into the fires where it was cast but the power got the better of him and he kept it. This eventually led to his death and he was attcked in the Gladden fields by Orcs, who killed him. The ring fell to the bottom of the lake and was not found for many years...... Men still live in Middle-Earth today and mostly inhabite a quite town in the Shire called Bree. In the Lord of the Rings trilogy there are only two men who are part of the Fellowship, Aragorn and Boromir. More Men are introduced in the next to movies and these include Faramir (brother of Boromir) and Theoden (king of Rohan). |
