Abby stopped as the she and Carter got out of the church.
"I can’t believe I just did that." Abby exclaimed, shaking a little.
Carter smiled. "I could."
"Maybe this isn’t a good idea."
"Maybe it is."
"I don’t know."
"Abby, I do. Just trust me." Carter said, taking her hands in his.
Abby took one last glance at the doors of the church and then back at Carter. "I trust you. Let‘s get out of here."

Abby opened the door to her apartment and entered, Carter following. Carter touched her arm and she whirled around.
"Whohh.." Carter said, startled.
"What did I just do?" Abby said, barely whispering.
"You made the right decision."
"How do I know."
"By this..." Carter said and broke off by kissing her softly.
After a while, Abby broke the kiss. "I think I need to get out of this dress."
Carter smiled. "So do I."
Abby took his hands and walked to her bedroom. When they got there, Abby pulled her hair out of the bun, lifted it, and turned around so Carter could unzip her dress. It fell to the floor.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Carter asked when Abby turned back to face him.
"Definite." Abby said, reaching up to kiss him.

Carter and Abby laid in bed, Carter staring at Abby, and Abby starring at the ceiling.
Carter took Abby’s hand. "That was incredible." Carter whispered in Abby’s ear and kissed her fingertips.
Abby looked over at him. "It was." She turned, wrapped her arms around his waist, and laid her head on his chest. "You really think we can make this work?" Abby asked.
"I’m sure."
"What am I going to say to Luka? To all those people?"
"I’m sure they’ll understand."
"I hope so."
Abby looked up at him. "I’m glad you came and stopped me. That marriage, it would have never worked out."
"I almost stuck to my promise and didn’t go."
Abby smiled. "For once I’m relieved you didn’t listen to me."
Carter laughed. "Remind me to never take your advice again!"
"You know, that wedding dress is still in the corner, I could just put it back on and head back down the church..." Abby giggled.
"You’d be a little wrinkled."
"True. But I’d rather stay in bed with you anyway. No matter how much you mock me."
Carter pulled Abby closer and whispered in her ear. "I love you."
"I love you too."

"What do I say to him?" Abby said in a panic as she and Carter walked toward the hospital.
"Just...speak from the heart?"
"Right." Abby said sarcastically.
"Well, I might be a little upset too if my bride ran out on me in the middle of our wedding ceremony with another man. Well, actually, really mad, but-"
Abby cut him off. "You’re NOT helping!"
Carter looked over at her and gave her a puppy dog look. "Sorry."
Abby tried to keep a straight face. "This is serious!"
"I know, but don’t you find it just a little funny?"
"No!"
"Okay, okay, I‘ll stop."
"You better."
"What are you gonna do if I don’t?"
Abby shrugged. "I’m sure there’ll be at least one free exam room that I can lock you in and punish you during your break."
"I can’t argue with that logic." Carter said, pulling Abby to him and planting a kiss on her lips.
"Or...you could sleep at your own place for the next week..."Abby teased.
"Now, that isn’t funny!"
"I think it is." Abby pushed away from him and continued walking towards the ER.
Carter paused for a moment and then jogged to catch up. "I don’t know if this relationship is a good idea, I just might not be able to handle you." He joked.
"Believe me, you won’t. But you’ll stick around anyway." Abby replied, winking.
"I will." Carter confirmed as they finally reached the ambulance bay.

Abby took her stethoscope out of her locker and shut the door. Carter had already left to start seeing patients. She had tried to mask most of her nervousness while walking there with Carter, but her stomach was filled with butterflies. There would be a good chance Luka would be working today. Abby peeked out the door of the lounge. He wasn’t in sight. Abby breathed a sigh of relief and started her duties, noticing all the weird looks the rest of the staff was giving her. This would be a long day.

Carter walked out of an exam room, humming. And ran straight into Luka.
"Damn!" Carter thought to himself. Luka looked like he wanted to punch something. Or someone. He didn’t know what to say. He was the reason Abby didn’t marry the guy.
"Umm, how are you doing?" Carter asked lamely.
"How do you think?" Luka asked angrily.
"Good point. Well, nice talking." Carter said before walking away in the opposite direction. "I feel so sorry for Abby..." He thought to himself.

Abby walked out of the trauma room and disposed of her dirty gown and gloves. She saw Luka quickly heading her way. She looked around for a place to go. Stuck. She turned to him as he walked up to her.
"We need to talk." He said.
"I know, but not here, let’s go to the lounge." Abby said, and began walking to the lounge. Luka followed.
When they got there Abby started to speak. "Listen, I know that-"
"Can you explain to me what the hell is going on!?" Luka said, loudly.
Abby flinched. "I don’t know exactly. I’m still...I’m still in shock from what I did. And I am so sorry. I just, I knew that it wasn’t right. If you look inside, you’ll see it too. We don’t love each other, Luka."
Luka looked pained. "You don’t know how I feel."
Abby took his hands. "Well, even if you did love me, it wouldn’t be fair to marry you. I love Carter. I always did. I just pushed it down. We wouldn’t have been happy. We would have been forcing ourselves to love each other, when it really wasn’t there."
"I wish you could have told me before instead of leaving me at the alter." Luka remarked.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t know Carter was going to come bursting in...I really do feel horrible about this. Honestly."
Luka looked at her for a moment, thinking. "All I want is for you to be happy Abby. And if you’re happy with Carter, then you should be with him."
"Thank you Luka." Abby said, touched.
Luka nodded, turned, and left the lounge, leaving Abby by herself.
Abby smiled. Things were going to be okay.
