Shanes Story

Hi, I'm Shane and I'm an "athlete" (in the "alcoholic" sense of the word). Well my story is as follows: I was born in Dublin in 1975 and after a day or two lying around in the hospital I moved out to Russborough, Co. Wicklow to live life in the country,(affectionately known to city folk as "The Sticks"). Ahh them were the days, we had to walk 3 miles to get to the nearest shop. As a kid I spent most of my spare time climbing trees, fishing(I caught my first fish on my 10th birthday: a 4.5 pound pike which scared the shite out of me) and hanging around on the local farm(I had the smallest hands so I used to deliver all the lambs) etc. etc. I was always quiet(quiet but adventurous) as a kid and those traits have stuck with me to this day. After roughly 17 years working on my "cuntry agcent" I moved to Dublin "The big smoke" to go to college. Starting college was actually more like starting UCD Canoe Club. When I started College I joined UCD Canoe Cult and my whole time in college revolved around it. I'm not sure if it was the worst, or  the best, thing I have ever done. Basically the club is more like a cult and it consists of a bunch of lunatics who use canoeing as a means of getting enough people together to justify organising a piss up(lots of piss-ups). Some of them actually canoe as well. I survived my first two years in the Canoe Club(in College) without drinking. Finally I cracked and I'm always in debt ever since. I graduated in 1998(slightly later than expected) and entered the real world in Sept 1998 when I got my first proper job working for the ESB(Electricity Supply Board) (Me mammy was so proud). My hobbies include whitewater kayaking, paragliding, surfing, mountainbiking, kitesurfing(beginner) etc.. I have always had the urge to travel and as of 24th Jan 2001 I will be/am taking a career break for a year. Myself and two friends are going to India buying Motorbikes and driving them the whole way back to Ireland. We plan to time our return to coincide with one of the bankholiday weekends(June or August 2001) and we are going straight to Achill Island(West Coast of Ireland(Mayo)). If your around we will be in "The Pub"(otherwise known as Lourdies) in Dooagh and by the way "mines a Guinness". The rest of this site is dedicated to telling the stories of our travels.
