Baseball Movies - Part 1

MINNEAPOLIS - This is a topic that I will visit frequently in the offseaon. In the offseaosn in Minnesota we are unable to spend as much time outside. It would be pretty cold and we would look pretty goofy to sit out on the deck, or patio having a grill out in January. Not to mention it would be dark! So a movie is a good solution.

So one of many things to do to pass the offsesaon is movies, and baseball movies are a great way to catch some of America's favorite pass time when the white stuff covers the land. Now I know that snow does not yet cover the groud, but it will. And it is cold out now, sounds like a good time to throw in a movie!

There are different things that people look for in a movie when baseball is involved. There are some that look for an entertaining feel good movie. Often times these lack realism, or there are parts you find yourself getting a good chuckle out of. An example can be Rookie of the Year, not a bad movie, but not a single part of it is believable. I was entertained though.

Others look for a drama filled, real game atmosphere type of movie. These are harder to find and the best example I can think of off For Love of the Game that takes real umpires, real broadcasters and makes the game feel real. The Rookie  also has some of those same qualities. In the theater, you are not sure if he will get his perfect game or not. The slow motion adds to the drama.

Than there are the movies that have more of a middle ground. They have that baseball theme to them, or is all about baseball, but might not carry as much of that drama. Some of my favorites come from this type of movie, such as Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own.

This topic will be re visited a number of times and I will try to talk about all baseball movie titles there are out there.

Cardinals homer to a 2-0 lead

ST. LOUIS - The Cardinals scored 6 runs all on home runs in the rain Thursday night to come from a 3-0 deficit to win game two and go to Houston leading the series two games to none.

After seeing these two games, even if the Twins could have made it to the World Series there is no chance that they would be able to make it past the Cardinals. The Twins pitching just inst that good. I think that who ever will face them in the AL will have their work cut out and it might be a short series.

With Curt Schilling hurt and not starting game 5, if it is needed, the Red Sox could be finished. It becomes difficult to win the series when they are down 0-2 and are now without their best pitcher.
