Never camp within 200 ft. of standing or moving water sources. Camp should be out of sight from fellow campers. Never move rocks, logs and etc. to make it more suitable, but find a more suitable place and remember "LEAVE NO TRACE"is our motto.
You don't want directly under a tree,in the event of a sudden storm, the tree could serve as a lightning rod it could get blown down, and the tree could drain water or sap over your tent.
Setting up camp on a rise, slightly above the rest of the terrain' will a in making sure water doesn't start flowing through the camp during a downpour.
Now that we've narrowed the area down, you have found a nice flat spot in the clearing, about 5 hundred ft. from a wonderful bluff and 6 hundred ft. from a clean water source and there are no rocks, or tree roots to keep you up with a sore back.
