The studio where they built a model and decided where to put the dynamite was very interesting. As you may guess, its very difficult to be on a 300 ft granite face and determine how big to make an eyebrow. Turns out they just scaled it off the model. Still, an amazing feat. I guess they'd use laser beams these days.
We camped at the Mt. Rushmore KOA, about 3 miles from the monument. I got a nice early morning mountain bike ride in while the rest of the crew was sleeping. It was easily the most expensive campground we stayed in for the entire trip-- but you know what they say: location, location, location. I guess the 10 odd 45' long bus type RV's (costing $250K to over $1M) aren't really swayed too much by a $40 nightly fee! I hope they were able to get adequate satellite reception! Our radio wouldn't even work. Below you'll see Tessa posing for her future spot on the left lobe.

We visited the permanent
granite home of the four presidents. Tessa kept asking "Who is Theodore
Roosevelt and why's he so great?".
