The studio where they built a model and decided where to put the dynamite was very interesting. As you may guess, its very difficult to be on a 300 ft granite face and determine how big to make an eyebrow. Turns out they just scaled it off the model. Still, an amazing feat. I guess they'd use laser beams these days. We camped at the Mt. Rushmore KOA, about 3 miles from the monument. I got a nice early morning mountain bike ride in while the rest of the crew was sleeping. It was easily the most expensive campground we stayed in for the entire trip-- but you know what they say: location, location, location. I guess the 10 odd 45' long bus type RV's (costing $250K to over $1M) aren't really swayed too much by a $40 nightly fee! I hope they were able to get adequate satellite reception! Our radio wouldn't even work. Below you'll see Tessa posing for her future spot on the left lobe.
