Weiss Knob

Weiss Knob is a 4,000 footer at the south end of the valley.  The easy way to reach it is to take the Canaan Valley ski lift to the top and then walk along the ridge.  Not too much uphill involved.

The ridgeline has a lot of the small spruces with branches mostly on one side due to the wind.

This picture is taken from Weiss Knob looking towards Canaan Ski Area.

Canaan Valley has two downhill ski areas and one cross country area.  They get about 150" of snow a year.  I've had some of my best ski trips ever to this area, sometimes finding 2' of new snow.  I'd really like to spend some time cross country skiing it.  The White Grass XC area teaches telemark skiing but I'd probably better protect my shoulder and stay away from that!

From top of Weiss Knob.  You can see many of the ski trails in the left foreground.  They're a little steeper than they look but not radical by any means.

The trail follows a gas pipeline part of the way.  The top of Weiss Knob is to the left.  We found some nice blueberry patches up there also.
