Blaque Formed back in 1999 with the help of TLC's Lisa Nicole Lopes, better know as Lefteye. Natina, the mc of the group, was friends with Lisa's brother Ronald and through Ronald, Lisa saw Natina's talent and sudgest she create a group. Natina then thought of Shamari, a friend from school known for her signing and asked her if she would like to start a group. Shamari then introduced Brandi who she met in various talent auditions and with the help of Lisa and their chemistry they signed with Columbia. With columbia they successfully finished up their first album 'Blaque Ivory' with 1.5 million in sales. From the first album they produced three hit singles, '808' and 'I do' and wrapping up with 'Bring it all to me' being their most successful. Nearing the end of 'Blaque Ivory' they went back into the studio to create their second album 'Blaque Out'. They recorded the first single 'Can't Get It Back' and shot the video and released it in 2000 and continued to finish up their album. This may of not been the best time for a new album because during the devolopement of 'Blaque Out' Blaque had a few major issue with their management and felt that Columbia was not allowing them to have their own creative input. Columbia further went on and bossed the girls left and right and lined them up with unreasonable promotion scheduals. With the conflicts between the management and the group the members didn't feel like co-operating with Columbia and missed several promotional dates and appearances. Finally both sides agreed to go seperate ways and Blaque was out on in the cold with an unreleased album. 'Can't get it back' was pulled from radio stations and the video never hit MTV or BET. Fate had decided that it just was not time for Blaque to shine just yet. Natina went on to have a baby boy by the name of Tren so the group was put on a stand still. After the baby was born the group became aware of the tragic death of their music industry mother Lisa Lefteye Lopes. "This is just very devistating because Lisa was like a mother to us." States Shamari during the 106th & Park tribute to Lefteye. "We didn't know the Lefteye we knew the Lisa." Shamari continued to say. When asked 'What do you remember about starting to put together the group and Lefteye being involved?' Shamari remembers her always saying that they all reminded her of her own group, TLC. Lisa was always their for the group during any photo shoots and promotional events. Lisa also picking out the producers Blaque worked with and helped style the groups outfits. With that said she was more than a mother to Blaque, not only giving them birth into the industry but also nuturing their careers. Two healing years have passed since that tragic moment and Blaque is now stronger than ever before.. Now signed with Elektra the girls are currently in the studio finishing up their offical second album 'Torch'. "The name Torch is a tribute to our mother. Were carrying on the 'torch' not for TLC but for Lefteye." states natina in a July 2003 interview on TheBeat95.5 ATL's urban radio station. The first single from Torch is 'I'm Good' and the song is also featured on the soundtrack for the upcomming movie 'Honey'. The single offically dropped on the radio September 30th and the video was just recently premiered on BET. So now is the time to help out Blaque. Be sure to request on your local radio stations and on MTV, MUCHMUSIC, and BET. Lets send these girls to the top where they belong. With all Blaque has gone through and experienced it's reassuring that the three girls, Shamari, Natina and Brandi stand strong behind the meaning of Blaque which stands for Believing in Life and Acheiving a Quest for Unity in Everything.
