Mest Wasting Time (Maverick)
One fine autumnal afternoon in the trailer park, a tattooed whiteboy turns to his compatriot and says, “Hey, I’ve got bleached, spiky hair and/or my baseball cap on backward. What do you say we start a punk band with some other likeminded, suburbanite malcontents and put a few midgets on the album sleeve?” His friend furrows a brow and replies, “But I only know how to play insipid, recycled power chord riffs, and you can’t sing worth a darn.” Then, after a moment of reflection, he agrees with a heartfelt “We’ll be filthy rich!” And so Mest was born, combining the worst qualities of every “punk” band that’s being grossly overplayed on mainstream radio with the best qualities of that smelly stuff that your dog leaves in neat little piles on the lawn. Their single “What’s the Dillio?” is certain to be the theme song to the next Pokémon movie. Fortunately, the band manages to look both pretty and tough enough to appeal to middle-school girls and post-pubescent boys alike, and along with the promotional might of Madonna’s Maverick Records, Mest should have no problem annoying the crap out of the public for the next 1.32 years (approximately). Wasting Time lives up to its name.
