Generation 1

William Applegate is our first known ancestor in the Applegate line. He was born c1560 in England. He had the following child:

John Applegate was born c1580 at Norfolk, England. He had the following child:
  1. Thomas Applegate

Generation 3

Thomas Applegate was born c1604 at Norfolkshire, England and died 1662 at Middlesex Co., NJ. He was buried at the Old Dutch Church, Gravesend, Long Island, New York. He settled in Holland and emigrated to Massachusetts c1635. He married Elizabeth Mary Wall c1620 in England. She was also born 1604 at Norfolkshire, England. In 1640 they removed to Rhode Island and from there to Flushing, Long Island, New York (then New Amsterdam) c1644-1645. The couple settled permanently at Gravesend, Long Island, New York in 1646. Generation 4

Thomas Applegate II was born 1641 at New Amsterdam (now NY) and died between 1 February 1698/9 and 29 March 1699 at Monmouth Co., NJ. He married Joanna Gibbons. She was born c1652 in NJ and died after 1699 at Monmouth Co., NJ. For information on her ancestry see the Gibbons Family. They had the following children:

Generation 5

Benjamin Applegate was born 1686 at Middlesex Co., NJ and died 3 February 1753 at Burlington Co., NJ. He married Elizabeth Morford c1720 at Monmouth Co., NJ. Generation 6

Benjamin Applegate was born 1725 in NJ and died 31 May 1823 at Allegheny Co., PA. He married first to Rebecca Wall in 1753 at NJ. She was born in 1730 at NJ and died 15 November 1781. Information on her ancestry can be found at the Applegate Genealogy Page. Benjamin Applegate removed from NJ to Forward Twp., Allegheny Co., PA in 1766 and in 1769 returned to NJ for his family and moved them to PA. He was a Revolutionary War veteran. He married second to Hannah, further information about her unknown.

William Applegate was born 1733 at Burlington Co., NJ and died c20 June 1804 at Allegheny Co., PA and is buried in the Applegate Family Burying Ground near Elizabeth in Allegheny Co., PA. He was a Revolutionary War Veteran, serving from Westmoreland Co., PA, and married Sarah Catherine Wiggins. She died after 1801. They had the following children:

Garrett Wall Applegate was born 2 November 1758 at Frederick Co., VA (now Berkeley Co., WV) and died 2 September 1837 at Harrison Co., IN. He was buried in the Pittman Cemetery, Heth Twp., Harrison Co., IN. He served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting 3 times. He removed from PA to Harrison Co., IN in 1818. Garrett Wall Applegate married Mary Johnson, daughter of Peter Johnson. She died at Harrison Co., IN. They had the following children:

Isaiah Applegate was born 24 December 1781 at Allegheny Co., PA and died 11 April 1838 at Harrison Co., IN. He married Hannah Applegate. She was born 1779 at PA and died 24 October 1868 at Harrison Co., IN. She was the daughter of Garrett Wall Applegate and Mary Johnson, see above in this generation. Isaiah and Hannah Applegate had the following children:

William Applegate, Jr. was born 1766 near Princeton, Middlesex Co., NJ and died 8 March 1844 at Harrison Co., IN. He married December 1790 to Mary Walker at Washington Co., PA. She was born 1774 at Washington Co., PA and died 22 January 1858 at Harrison Co., IN. Both are buried in the Pittman Cemetery, Heth Twp., Harrison Co., IN having settled at IN in 1812. They had the following children:

Charles Applegate was born 21 July 1808 at Allegheny Co., PA and died 24 July 1857 near Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. He married 5 April 1832 to Sarah Applegate at Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. She was born 26 March 1808 at PA and died 29 December 1884 at Harrison Co., IN. Both are buried in the Pittman Cemetery, Heth Twp., Harrison Co., IN. They had the following children:

John Taylor Applegate was born 10 June 1847 near Corydon, Harrison Co., IN and died 22 October 1878 at Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. He married 30 January 1869 to Sarah Catherine Rees at Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. She was born 15 January 1847 at Harrison Co., IN and died 10 October 1882 near Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. For information on her ancestry see the Rees Family. Both are buried in the Hill Grove Church Cemetery, Corydon, Harrison Co., IN. They had the following children, all but the eldest also buried at the Hill Grove Church Cemetery:

Generation 10

Oliver Perry Applegate was born 21 December 1869 near Corydon, Harrison Co., IN and died 12 April 1922 at Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. After the deaths of his parents, Oliver Perry Applegate's guardian was his grandfather Francis Reas. Oliver Perry Applegate married 11 September 1899 to Gertrude Avery Lanius at Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. She was born 28 April 1873 at Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY and died 29 November 1951 at Urbana, Champaign Co., IL. For information on her ancestry see the Lanius Family. Both are buried in the Springdale Cemetery, Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. They had the following children:
  1. Virginia Lanius Applegate

Generation 11

Virginia Lanius Applegate was born 29 June 1902 at Chicago, Cook Co., IL and died 12 May 1987 at Urbana, Champaign Co., IL. She married 7 July 1928 to Robert Wesley Bills at Second Presbyterian Church, Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. He was born 9 April 1900 at Sheffield, Bureau Co., IL and died 11 September 1986 at Urbana, Champaign Co., IL. Both are buried at Roselawn Cemetery, Champaign, Champaign Co., IL.
