Avery Family


Generation 1

Christopher Avery was born 1590 in England and died 12 March 1670 at New London, New London Co., CT.  He married Margery Stephens 26 August 1616 at Ippledon, Devonshire, England.  She died in England.  Christopher Avery resided at Gloucester, MA 1646 - 1658; Boston, MA 1658 - 1663; and was a resident of New London, CT 1665 - his death.  They had at least one child:
  1. James Avery

Generation 2

James Avery was born 1620 in England and died 18 April 1700.  He arrived in New England in 1630 and was a veteran of King Philip's War.  He married first to Joanna Greenslade 10 November 1643.  She was born c1622 and died after 1693.  He married second to Abigail Ingraham 4 July 1698.  She died after 1714.  Abigail Ingraham had married first 30 November 1655 to Samuel Chesebrough (c1 Apr 1627-31 July 1673) and second 5 June 1675 to Joshua Holmes.

James Avery was born 15 December 1646 at Gloucester, Essex Co., MA and died 22 August 1748.  He married Deborah Stallion 18 February 1669.  She died 27 March 1729 and was the daughter of Margaret and Edward Stallion.  James Avery and Deborah Stallion were buried in the West Burying Ground, Pequonoc, CT.  They had the following children:

Hannah Avery was born 1 February 1719 at Groton, New London Co., CT and died there 28 July 1799.  She married Benadam Gallup III 11 August 1740 at Groton, New London Co., CT.  He was born 26 October 1716 at Groton, New London Co., CT and died there 29 March 1800.  Both were buried in the Gallup Cemetery, Ledyard, New London Co., CT.  For further information see the Gallup Family.  They had the following children:
