Sawmill Creek Dome

So far most of our exploring has been done in just a few major areas North of the St. Louis River. Sawmill Creek Dome, and Ely's Peak have been the primary areas we've checked out lately, and they both have stellar stuff for this part of the world. But between the two, Sawmill has much better stone and a much cooler atmosphere. It is located along the Superior Hiking Trail, just outside of Finland, MN. Outside of mid-summer (when the mosquitoes are so bad that it's hard to notice anything else), the setting is amazing. Standing below a white anorthasite dome that's home to some of the most amazing rock features for hundreds of miles, you'll find yourself surrounded by really big boulders with really hard lines. There's everything from increadible traverses to scary tall slab lines(some of them overhanging). The climbing here is pretty wild, and the locals are a bit protective. The North Shore of Lake Superior has a history of strong ethics, so bolting, chipping, and in some cases even chalking is frowned upon. Use your own disgression, but you should probably at least be aware of what the local ethics are.

Here are some pics from our video. Hopefully we'll get some better ones up soon.
