River's Dream
Chapter 1
Carrie and her boyfriend,Joey, were sitting in their private suite's lounge watching TV. Joey was more interested in his girlfriend's hair than the cartoons on the tube. Carrie didn't even notice that he was playing with her hair. She was focusing her thoughts on the premonition she was having. Unconsciously, she grasped her symbol, a plain gold, eight pointed star pinned to the inside of the left strap of her tank top, through the fabric of her shirt. The voice that accompanied the premonition was strangely familiar, though she could swear she never heard anything like it. "River, Guardian of the waters, you and Stone must reconcile your differences with Drake and Breeze. The Darkness is coming and you must stop it." The Premonition ended as suddenly as it had begun. Carrie's whole body shuddered and some of her hair was pulled out by Joey's fingers.
"Ow! That hurt!" She yelped as she pulled her hair out of his grasp.
"You're telling me. I think the circulation was cut off in my fingers." He untwined the loose pieces of hair from his fingers and inspected them for injury. "Why did you do that?"
"Why did I do that? Why the hell were you playing with my hair? You know I don't like other people touching my hair." Carrie ran her own fingers through her hair, searching for further damage. When she was satisfied that no other hairs had been lost, she got up from the couch and walked to the door.
"I'm sorry. I forgot. Where are you going?" Carrie gave Joey her a 'don't ask' look and left the room. She headed down the hall to Lindsy's suite and was about to knock on the door when she changed her mind. She crossed the hall and banged on Justin's door instead. It was almost five minutes before Justin answered the door an a T-shirt and boxers.
"What?" He asked sourly and scratched his head through his tousled hair.
"I need to talk to Sto-Lindsy. Right now." Carrie oped he hadn't caught her little slip up, but Justin didn't seem to notice. Neither him nor the other guys knew their secret, and she wasn't about to tell them now. He turned and called to Lindsy, telling her that Carrie was at the door. Carrie grabbed his arm and yanked him out into the hall. Before he could react, she had closed and locked the door behind her. Justin, not wanting to be seen in just his underwear, walked down the hall to the suite Joey and Carrie shared.
Carrie sat on the couch in Justin's lounge and waited for Lindsy to come out of the bedroom. When she finally did, Carrie raised and eyebrow at her questioning outfit.
"I really hope you're wearing shorts under that."
"Of course I am. Do you want to see?" Lindsy gripped the bottom of her long T-shirt. Carrie raised a hand to her forehead to shield her eyes, though it looked like she was rubbing her temple instead.
"No, it's okay. I believe you. I only came to see if you had a premonition a few minutes ago." Lindsy sat in the seat next to Carrie and put her bare feet up on the coffee table.
"I wasn't wearing my symbol." Lindsy gave a sly side-ways glance at her friend. "Besides, prems are your thing, not mine... What was it about?" Carrie told her everything, including the hair episode. Lindsy would have thought that part was funny but everything else had canceled out her laughter. At the end of Carrie's story, Lindsy just shook her head.
"I refuse to even mention the name of that double-crossing b... Uhg! Indi! Indigo get off of mommy!" Lindsy patted the cushion next to her and the little Husky pup jumped off of her and curled up into a little furry ball. "Good dog. Wendy can come, but not her." Carrie got up to leave. Lindsy's cruel words against Amber were painful to hear although there was a ring of thruth to them.
"Your really do hold your grudges. You even rank that dog above your friends. It's been five years, let it go."
"You know I can't. She almost killed me the last time we saw each other. Go ahead and call them. See if she even picks up her phone. If she does, I'll forgive and forget." Carrie nodded her head and went to the mini bar to get some bottled water.
Justin sat in the chair by the door of Joey's lounge. They were both wondering what the girls were doing in Justin's room. Finally, Joey got up and went to the door. Justin took that as a sign to follow him. Together, they went to Justin's room and banged on the door.
"What are you two doing in there?" Justin yelled through the door.
"Making out!" A voice that sounded like Carrie's yelled back and a burst of laughter followed. Justin tried the knob and found the door unlocked. The guys rushed in to find the girls sitting on the couch laughing at them. "I was just joking." Carrie said between chuckles.
"Yeah, we were just messing with your cute little heads." Lindsy jumped into Justin's arms and wrapped her legs around his waist. While she was kissing her boyfriend passionately, Joey sat down in the seat next to Carrie. Indigo ran around the room, barking her head off at the intruders, until she stopped and sniffed each one of them. Joey scooped her up and plopped her on the couch behind him.
"Don't ever do that to me again."
"Well you started it, but I forgive you." She hugged him and then shoved him off the couch. "Now that that's all said and done, Lindsy and I have some work to do, so get out." Justin started to say something about this being his room, but Lindsy placed a finger over his lips.
"Just do what the boss-lady tells you, and you won't get hurt."
"Can I at least go get a pair of pants first?" She nodded and he put her down to go rummage through his closet. He came back, wearing a pair of khakis and sneakers. He kissed Lindsy one more time and left. Joey gave Carrie one last look and shut the door behind him. Lindsy grabbed the cordless phone and threw it to Carrie.
"Call them."
