River's Dream
Chapter 4
After the show, Lindsy had to run to catch up with her group of dancers. One of those dancers she had to talk to desperately, and her name was Carrie. By the time she got Carrie's attention, Lindsy was out of breath. She leaned against the bus in the taped off section of the parking lot and breathed heavily.
"Carrie... have to... talk." Carrei paused in getting on the bus to help her friend up instead.
"Okay. You can tell me, just sit down before you pass out." She handed Lindsy a bottle of water and sat next to her on the couch. Lindsy took a sip and spilled her story.
"Your Romeo called, and Joey picked up the phone." Carrie glowered at her friend and hoped that Greg hadn't said anything to get her in trouble.
"First off, he is not my Romeo, and secondly, what was Joey doing answering the phone? I thought he was getting dressed."
"He was, and now he's pissed." Lindsy finished of the bottle, reached into the refrigerator for something harder and pulled out a mini screwdriver. She looked out of the open window to see Amber and Wendy walking up to the bus. Amber handed over several rolls of film to an assistant and told him to mail it to New York as fast as possible.
"I have a developer friend up there and he'll get these done by the time we get there." She said and got on the bus. Wendy started in on the conversation already at hand.
"What's with all the bad vibes I feel in here?" Before Carrie could answer, Joey climbed on the bus, mad as a raging bull. His hair was sticking up in angry red and black spikes and his eyes were practically bugging out of his head.
"Who's Greg, and what does he mean to you?" All four girls stared at him, afriad to respond. Finally, Carrie got up the nerve to tell him.
"He's a friend of ours and has been ever since high school. But, yesterday, he told me that he's had a crush on me from the moment he met me, and he kissed me. There, that's it. That's the whole story. He has feelings for me, but I don't have those same feelings for him." Just as Carrie finished her speech, the infamous Greg Wnter walked on the bus. Joey recognized him by his voice when he said hello to Carrie.
"You're coming with me. We've got something to discuss." Amber looked over the rims of her sunglasses to see Joey drag Greg off the bus.
"Oh, this is going to be good." The girls ran off the bus to stop Joey, but it was too late. He had turned Greg into a human punching bag and was throwing out some heavy lefts and rights. "I didn't think anyone could bend like that." Amber said after Joey had laid a good blow to Greg's stomach. Lindsy turned to Amber, ready to start her own fight.
"How can you see out of those things, even if they are tiny granny glasses? I could understand rose -tinted glasses, but lenses are red ." By the time Lindsy finished lecturing Amber on her eyewear, security had broken up the fight. They had to hold Joey back and keep Greg conscious at the same time, so security couldn't stop Carrie from running up to Joey and slapping him full in the face.
"Why did you have to do that to him? I told you I didn't have feelings for him, and now he has to spend the night in the hospital. I hope Greg presses charges against you." Her words hurt him as much as it did her, but Carrie had to say them. Joey disregarded her tears as those for Greg, when they were for him.
"I didn't leave any permanent damage." Carrie shook her head in disbelief.
"Have a good night in jail, you asshole." Amber walked up and led Carrie away from the source of her prblems. She gave Joey her 'stay away' look and helped her friend onto the bus.
Sometime after Joey had been dragged away, and the ambulance had left, Carrie's tears dried up to sniffles, and Amber had to go change her shirt. They had checked out of the hotel just that morning, so all of their stuff was in the back of the bus. As it turned out, Joey spent no time in jail what-so-ever, and Greg would have to plead guilty of stalking charges. 'Life is so unfair.' Amber thought and changed into red silk pajamas. 'But, it's a good thing Johnny made Joey switch busses with Lance. I don't think Joey would have lived to see another sunrise, had he stayed here.' She hoped things would be better in New York and went back to the front to see how the others were doing.
"How could he do that to me?!" Carrie wailed into Justin's ear. He had succeeded in making her cry again. Amber pushed him out of her way and sat down next to Carrie.
"Amateur. Sit down before you get yourself hurt. Carrie, Carrie, it's going to be all right. You and Joey will be back together before he can say those magical little words." Justin looked confused for a moment but then a light bulb virtually went on in his head.
"Oh, you mean those three words!" Amber stared at him as if he was a little kid who didn't know anything about anything.
"No! The other words. Why don't you say them with me, so you'll know what you're talking about. They go 'I was wrong, and I'm sorry.'" She made quoting signs with her fingers and rolled her eyes at him. Lindsy took offense at Amber treating her boyfriend like that.
"Hey, leave him alone. Just because you don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean you can make fun of anyone else's." Amber got up and went back toward the bunks. She stopped and turned back around. her voice showed all the pian and anguish she was feeling.
"You know I can't have a boyfriend, Lindsy. Not everyone is lucky enough to fall in love more than once." Wendy got up and went over to her fiery friend. She looked Amber in her eyes to see the truth in what she said.
"Does that mean what I think it means?"
"Yes. I found him." Lindsy was getting annoyed by all theis cryptic bullshit. If Amber had found her one true love, why wasn't she with him, or...
"If you found him, how comes he'd not here with you then?" Amber's cold facade finally crumbled with one last blow. Her true emotions were seen in all their glory and shame. As if Carrie's tears hadn't been enough, she added a few of her own to the mix.
"Because he's a priest!" With that said Amber closed the curtain to the bunk area and didn't come back. The others sat in a stunned silence. Wendy broke itin a quiet, thoughtful voice.
"What a sad, twisted tale of a Juliet and her Romeo. Destined to never fall in love." The other girls shared her view of things, but Justin brought the male point of view into focus.
"She's in love with a priest? Is she sick or something?" Suddenly, Amber started screaming.
"Ah! Lindsy, I am going to kill your dog! Get off my bunk you mutt!" None of the girls said anything. They just went to save Indigo from Amber's rage. Slightly muffled, Lindsy spoke up.
"Leave Indi alone! She's not a mutt. No, she's not. She's a pretty pure-bred Husky, yes she is." She had started talking in that annoying voice she always used when she was cuddling Indigo.. Justin and Lance were left by themselves.
"I'm not going back there, even if one of them is my girlfriend." Lance shook his head in agreement and they settles down on the couches to get some shut eye.
