ROLE AMBIGUITY

OBNotes.HTM by WILF H. RATZBURG

The role assigned to an individual by the group or organization may be a source of problems.

One such problem is role ambiguity. Fundamentally, role ambiguity is due to lack of clarity regarding duties, responsibilities, and/or authority. Role ambiguity may be due to the complexity of the job.

Frequently, role ambiguity may be exhibited by less capable or less confident group members.

The resolution to role ambiguity may lie in precise role descriptions (job descriptions) or a simplification of the tasks.
