Chapter 70

Mary watched as Joanne finally fell asleep. She quietly left the nurse's lounge and headed back to ICU. Hopefully, the girl would get a couple of hours sleep. Even though she needed more, Mary doubted Joanne would rest for more than 2 or 3 hours...obstinate this one....just what Jock needs. Mary chuckled thinking Joanne must give her son a run for his money.

She softly closed the door behind her and went to look for her husband. Joanne's eyes opened the second the door closed. She lay in the dark reliving the events of the past few days...moment after bloody moment. She was convinced she would never be able to sleep again until she was positive Jock would be alright and whoever did this to him paid...and paid dearly. The need for justice was eating her up inside. It bordered on a fanatical obsession. She had talked to some of Jock's old friends from The Agency; so far no clues had been turned up and there was no visible connection to Bodega. Whoever ordered the hit came in through the back door....Joanne had to figure out where the back door was. She hunted around the lounge until she found a pad and a pen to take notes. She started jotting down all she could remember from the past couple of weeks. Convinced the clue was there if only she looked hard enough, Joanne continued to rack her brain for any little useless bit of information. She looked up and noticed the time. Mary had been gone for nearly 4 hours. She was sure to come in and check on Joanne at any moment. She tore off the pages which contained her scribbles and neatly folded them. Placing them in her pants pocket, she decided to take a shower.

Mary peaked her head into the lounge. The sound of the shower and empty cot told her Joanne was up and would be heading back up to ICU. Mary went to the cafeteria. The girl needed a warm meal. Mary had every intention of making sure Joanne ate every last bite. Sleep and a hot meal...just what the doctor ordered. At least when Jock woke up, Mary silently blessed herself and raised her eyes upwards, he wouldn't be scared back into a coma by the sight of her. Another McGillen to add to the family fold....she'd have plenty to talk about with the rest of the family once Jock was out of danger.

Remi truly enjoyed leering at his wife and making her miserable. How many nights had he envisioned her in Jerry Jack's bed...doing the things only he should be doing with his wife. He had made Isabella everything that she was and more. When they first hooked up she was young and far from accomplished in bed, he had taken the time to cultivate her. Even at that first meeting, Remi knew there's would be a dynamic combination. With him guiding her, Romero International hit the pinnacle of its fame. The money and power were always his ultimate goal, but he also needed the recognition. He hadn't counted on her idiotic family loyalty. Unwilling to go against the family, she killed whatever tender emotions he ever harbored for her. In all things he expected unfaltering loyalty. Isabella had betrayed him and she had betrayed him twice...once in business and once in bed. Now she had to pay the consequences for her actions. He would bring them all down and once he had control of holdings of the Romeros, Barretts and Jacks enterprises, he would have the recognition he so richly deserved.

Everything was falling into place so nicely. It really was a shame the game would be ended soon but it had to be. He didn't want to strike irreparable blows to businesses. Once he was in control, he would restore them to their former profitability and be touted as the master business man that he knew himself to be. The icing on the cake would be having Isabella glued to his side fawning all over him for the world to see. A sadistic smile graced his lips as he pictured the agony this would inflict on both his wife and Jerry Jacks. This was really turning into quite a good year...one of his best in fact.

Remi's fantasies were interrupted by the ringing of his cell phone. What fool could be calling him on that secure number?

Remi picks up the phone and answers it. "Yes?" A cloud of disapproval passes over his face, the instant he hears the callers voice.

"You IDIOT! Why are you calling me...You know never to call me directly....Hang up before the call can be traced." Remi shut off the phone and tossed it onto the bed. It immediately began ringing and ringing. After 10 minutes, one of the guards rapped at the door and asked if everything was alright. Remi dismissed him. Still fuming, he called one of his associates in Lybia.

"I got a phone call today. Take care of the idiot before he ruins this for all of us." Remi slammed down the phone and cursed the caller. Now was not the time for mistakes.

Jerry wandered around the grounds of the Jarod estate. The brisk air helped him think. All he knew for sure was that Isabella and Remi Bodega had been at the Gran View Hotel in Jordan. No one had seen or heard from them since. After a call from the office to Romero International, he realized that he was the only one who even knew something was wrong. Eduardo was out of town...more than likely drinking and gambling....and Ms. Romero was out of town on business. I could leave her a voice mail or e:mail...which ever I prefered and she would get back to me as soon as possible. A bunch of company drivel...in other words, Isabella was not to be disturbed and that was normal when she was traveling in the Arab block countries. He had to play this carefully. If he alerted anyone, Remi would surely get wind of it and drag Isabella even deeper into hiding.

Picking up the pace, Jerry started jogging around the grounds to relieve some of his pent up hostilites. This was a cat and mouse game and right now Jerry was the mouse. He didn't like it but that was the truth of the matter. Bodega was pulling his strings. Why else would it have been so easy to find that the Bodegas had stayed at the Gran View. Remi wanted him to know he had Isabella. Jerry was convinced of this. Just as he was convinced he had to find her before Remi started the next phase of his plan.

The man took his cell phone and smashed it against the wall. He had been trying for over an hour to contact his associate. Each time he got the same message..."That number is no longer in service." No longer in service...the prick had the phone shut off. Seperation he wanted and seperation he would get. There was more than one way to play this game. Now he would do things his way.

He logged on and searched the net for information on the plane crash. He laughed as he shut off the computer. Yes things did seem to be working just as planned.
