Services to be provided
The Broward County Homeless Assistance Center/Huizenga Family Campus will offer a comprehensive approach to ending homelessness by providing a complete package of needed services in a single location. The Center shall provide, on site:
Service providers will include private and nonprofit agencies, volunteers, and governmental entities.
The Center's Goal
To provide a framework for the provision of services designed to reduce and prevent homelessness. These services include emergency housing, food, clothing, intensive case management and timely access to mental health and substance abuse treatment; education and job training; social skills development; health care; counseling; and other support services.
Plan of Action:
The Broward County Homeless Initiative Plan was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in December, 1993. The plan represents the ideas and opinions of consumers, public officials, service providers, Broward County residents, business and professional people. As a result of that plan, a 200-bed Homeless Assistance Center will be built to serve as the entry point for homeless families and individuals to receive shelter and support services.
What is the Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. (BPHI)?
The partnership is a private, not-for-profit organization with a board of directors consisting of representatives from the business, financial, legal, medical, social services, religious, educational and political professions. Through a public/private cooperative effort with Broward County, the Broward Partnership for the Homeless,Inc will oversee the construction and operation of the Center as well as raise private funding.
How can you assist?
United community support is essential. Not only shall the Center be of enormous benefit to the homeless (and, subsequently, formerly homeless), it shall serve as a source of community pride. You should support this effort because there is a need and because you have the opportunity. Private funds are critical and, thus, being sought to fund capital costs of constructing the Homeless Assistance Center. Your contribution will not only assist in bringing the Center to fruition, private sector support can be leveraged to ensure an adequate flow of governmental funding.
