I found details of James William Linton being born 8th Sept 1870 in Hull, Yorkshire, England with parents Charles Linton and Ann Eliza Barrett. When I looked for the details of this marriage it gave me thier marriage of 13th Sept 1873. Family history has James born in 1874 which would sound right because back then you were supposed to have kids after you were married. It doesn't surprise me if James was born in 1870, but it does surprise me that his parents waited about 3 years to marry each other. Of course they weren't going to say "Well Jim we had you before we were married" because they didn't do that back then. People were very secretive and quite often if a woman found that she was pregnant you could almost bet your bottom dollar she was married to the father soon after. So it is possible that this James Linton was born about 1870 but the parents bumped it up to 1874 to work in well with thier marriage. It was very common to be born out of wedlock these days. You decide!
