This paper intends to introduce a database technology i.e. Object-Oriented Database (OODB). As survey introduction in Chapter 1, the concept of Object-Orientation will be introduce, and then this paper gives an overview of OODB including the background of its appearance and current main commercial products in the market. Chapter 2 combines theory and practice. It imports an example application for a Higher Education Database System (HEDS), and will firstly analyse it with the theory of the representative of traditional database i.e. Relational Database (RDB), and then reveal the weakness of RDB. In order to remove these weaknesses of traditional database system, the theory of 13 features for an OODB are introduced one by one, and an example of design for HEDS with OODB technique is implemented. Chapter 3 generally evaluates OODB as well as its meaning and importance for database development in future. The last chapter summarises all the concerned content in the paper.
