   1999 FESTIVAL OF BEATLES

It was twenty hours ago today, R.Stevie Moore thought the man could play; he's been going out and out of style, but he's guaranteed to race a mile ; so may I introduce to you, the band you've not known for all these years....

           The kids may be alright, but for my money, seeing RSM last Saturday (3/27) at the latest BEATLEFEST convention over at the Crowne Plaza Meadowlands In Secaucus, NJ was a true modern musical Religious EXPERIENCE!!           

    He was in very fine form, especially considering how he never even gets outta the house. His main objective was to specifically perform for the finale of Martin Lewis' hoax "lecture", but the fest afforded the cherished opportunity for him to circulate with the teeming fresh faces, some of whom recoginized him and asked for autographs, and to participate in far more than was planned. And our trusted videographer was following close behind! (Write for details and view for yourself!)       

           Our Stevie entered the fray of total geeks, fervant fanatics, old hippies, young hippys, greasers, infants, has-beens & never-weres with his head high and his squeaky white fake-leather coat spit-shined, and his guitar tuned and warmed to comfort level. The guy also brought his newly-purchased harmonica, in the event he was so summoned. There was also the added element of fueling by Seagram's.                  

After the emotional initial meeting with Lewis, RSM spirals around to join random fest-jams, in the piano room where he warbled Hey Jude and over to the video Karaoke station to jump into a young fan's version of You've Got to Hide Your Love Away complete with projected background of streaming rooftops. He's wandering around like he owns the place, but he knows better. Stevie's just trying to have his fun, but it's painfully apparent: this guy can MESMERIZE the peasants.....                   

None of the attention paid mattered, though, until the Main Event.                   

Siphoned off into a ritzy hotel conference room where panelists like George Harrison's sister, Lou and Gordon Waller of Peter & Gordon had just done their Q&A thingie, Moore and company sat to listen to Martin's hilarious half-hour speech about his Fabs connections, the weird and wacky events in his life that shaped his skewed vision, and the Songs Hoax, which culminated with a two-tune demonstration of melodies by Our Hero.....the bogus titles "Pink Litmus Paper Shirt" and "Colliding Circles" were rescued from the dead, most decidedly with the very able accompaniment of Chris Bolger. Stevie's own versions (from 1985) sounded both ancient and futuristic!! Martin was beside himself (a far reach!) and the unitiated Beatle fans were simultaneously intrigued by Stevie's quintessential charm and humor and in awe of his very distinctive talent. They wanted to hear more from Moore!....rent the film, I say! Words do no justice!

             And well-oiled, R.Steven proceeded to bask in the glory of his featurette by joining a big "campfire singalong" in the adjoining lobby, the old master playing with the kids. You could almost hear the spirit and voice of the Fabs infiltrate the performances. Apple Scruffs, indeed!

               Much pomp, and then we were gone into the stormy New Jersey night all abuzz with the memory of a historic evening lingering on our minds.

A precious memory, a fleeting moment, an image captured for the books.

                 You say, Yes?
                 I say, Know!
