Subject: Willie Mays CatchI understand you wanted to catch up on some old times. I can't remember shit.
Where are you living? I live in Huntsville, Alabama. I have a 4 year old boy from my second marriage. He is a trip. My only child! I am trying to get him playing golf like his old man and he is doing pretty good for his age.
I still got some hair, but I am as ugly as I ever was. Could lose about 40 lbs too!
Write back,
Richard Willis

We meet again!
And what's up?! What a cool, brilliant Subject line: 'Willie Mays Catch'! THAT'S IT! You DO remember me! How amazing, a day after MLB Opening Day 2002, I flashback to me and you with ball and gloves in your front yard! The Say Hey Kid! How old were we, 10-11??????
Richard, this is fantastic, thanks for responding. Who told you? Your cousin Margaret? Or Doug McMahon? Are you familiar with www.classmates.com?
I don't know where to start... HA! Richard "Effin'" Willis! One of my EARLIEST, BEST Madison friends!
I live in New Jersey (my mom's home state, remember?) since 1978. Self-employed freelance musician. Which means I'm BROKE! HA HA HA. Living with my 15 yr-long mate, Krys (age 38). No kids, 2 cats, 10,000 LPs CDs 45s tapes vids books etc.
I'm kinda notoriously well-known around the world, for my decades of recorded work. Have been writing and taping highly original homemade rock since 1968! Over 300 90-min tapes, with every musical style. Have had nearly 20 official album releases on global independent record labels. Am often cited as a reference in books and articles as 'the Father of D.I.Y. (Do-It-Yourself) Home Taping' (which today has become commonplace with all the small portastudios, computer programs etc available to all the newbie kids).
I have a HUGE selfmade website! Full of pics and info. Come see me at www.rsteviemoore.com
Rich, what do you do? Ugly? What's that mean? HA!
Got any pics? Please scan and send. You have computer at home? Or just at work? Have much time to surf the web? Do tell.
I remember your sister Brenda and brother Jerry. Wow! So long ago... I read where your father passed away recently, my sincere sympathies to ya, mate. My dad Bob turns 70 in November, lives with 2nd wife in Franklin TN.
Mother Betty lives in Tampa FLA area. Sister Linda is struggling singer/songwriter, lives in Antioch area. Brother Gary drives trucks near Chattanooga.
Ok, that's good for starters. Promise me we can continue to keep in touch. I don't know how you feel about computers, the internet and e-mail, but I absolutely love it. And hope it can help us communicate more often, if yer interested. I sure am.
Just turned 50 (Jan. 18). OUCH! (When is your big day?) I'm suddenly ballooning overweight too! (Never had a fat problem)
Was also trying to find Ricky Christian! Like you, another super-early best friend who I lost touch with soon afterward. You know whatever happened to him?
Am still very close to Billy Anderson (Donelson) & Roger Ferguson (Owensboro KY). Also, Terry Blankenship (Brentwood). Have also had email contact with many others from MHS.
Man, me and you go so way back! Intense memories of learning to play drums in your den, Mitch Ryder 'Devil With Blue Dress On' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARE YOU WITH ME? :-)
Come on, we're rapidly getting REALLY old! Now's the time to simulate some youth, let's make the effort & be friends again. (sounds so corny!)
Send me your phone # & mailing address.
Much love,

Got a message through Doug McMahon that you wanted to hear from me. Yes I have a computer at home and spend some time on it. I have a TV for sports and the news.
Don't ever talk to anyone from the old days, haven't tried. I will holler back when I have more time.

Went into sales about 4 years ago after working for a contract cleaning company in management for 23 years. The company was sold. I wanted to try something else, so I went into sales of office equipment with Pitney Bowes.
Last year 1600 sales reps did not make their quota and I was one. On the 8th of March they let me go. I am freaking out. There aren't many jobs where I live (the economy sucks) and for the first time in my life, now my age is against me.
I will survive though.
By the way my phone # is 256-489-4640.
Good to hear from you this week.
I remember my first day at Stratton School they sat me between you and Richard Biggs. 2nd grade !!

WoW!
Thanks for the new post. I was fearing I burst through the cyber-door too loud and boisterous yesterday! Did NOT wanna scare you away.
After all, it's kinda strange: this whole flashback thing is so surreal for me, kinda like back to the womb or something. Cause, frankly, we didn't stay friends very long, did we? Just sorta parted ways. I don't remember why, those things just happen. Maybe I leaned in a musical direction, and you preferred sports. I certainly don't recall any incidents of falling out or fighting or anything.
So, for me to return out of nowhere, after almost 40 fucking years! Ha, sorry if it's a bit weird. (plus, you said you never really had contact with our old MHS crew)
Yet, ain't it funny: because we go back so far, I feel an unexplainable bond somehow. Hard to figure.
It's the drums! That's what really blows my mind. And yet from 1966-on, I was playing with combos and rocknroll friends a lot. And you were never part of that scene, eh?
How in hell do you remember Stratton details like that, when the first thing you wrote me was 'I can't remember shit.' LOL
So where did you go to school in the first grade? (same with me, didn't start Stratton til 2nd; first was at Brick Church!)
Glad we got each other's phone numbers, yet... I HATE the goddam telephone. MUCH prefer email or e-chat. We really oughta try a chat on my website. Lemme know when.
Have you checked much of my site? How about that long page I sent you last night, people's Madison memories? You read yet? Man, that'll take you back. A million forgotten references, places, people, etc.
Again I ask: you got any recent photos of yourself you could email me? Please try.
Good luck with that job crap. Believe me, I can relate. Struggle has followed me around all my life.

The bond for me was that you were my first friend, and we did some kid stuff together. Do you remember going to Ky. Lake with my family and my parents giving you hell for not ever eating fried potatoes? I did look at the MHS site and don't remember the brown shoes, or the girl that you said I was with somewhere?
Do you still have your baseball cards? Wish I did! Do you remember the party Tommy Davis had in the 7th grade? I wasn't invited til the last minute, he said I was a party pooper. What the fuck is that? I would still like to whip his ass for that one! Maybe we can chat tonight. What do I do to chat?
I was in Cincinnati in the first grade.

baseball cards long gone. we had some gooduns, eh? that's why i signed one of my emails with Ralph Houk and Jay Hook! remember Jay Hook?? Haaaaa! i DO have a beat-up Roger Maris Topps 1962 card! That's the year that the pictures were framed in dark woodgrain. Also, have a Mantle card somewhere, fairly early. I'm still a very big Yankee fan!
Tommy Davis party! Whoa! Kentucky Lake? NO! No memory of that whatsoever! That's fucking amazing! :-)
Did you know Mike Schmidt? Guess what! We're still (sorta) in e-touch with Stan Goad! Metro Cop! You remember Sandy Murphy?

I'm fearful it might not work with AOL. Won't know til we try. Lemme know; it's fairly easy to track me down to the minute by just sending me an email. I'll write back immediately (hopefully!) and we'll go from there.
What's your weekend schedules like?
Please send me your snailmail address, so I can mail you some stuff!
EMAIL ME YOUR PICTURE!
